COMMON PROBLEMS PROBLEM 4:   Problems with topic, comment and the principles of topical progression can be difficult and time-consuming to repair, even for language experts who check the language of academic texts. Remember, if you use text-checking services, you are likely to be charged according to the time needed to improve your text. Furthermore, even if your work is checked by a language expert, your article or report may still be rejected by a scholarly journal on account of problems with cohesion and coherence caused by poor topic choice and weak development of topic in their texts. Many practising text editors may overlook problems with topic and topical progression. They may limit their language revisions to more superficial changes than the restructuring of the thematic structure of the text.
