Patterns of Organization

CHRONOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION

  TOPIC

1Once a procedure has been recorded, it appears in Mondrian's palette as a domino, with miniaturized frames of the initial and final states of the procedure. 2The newly defined operation can then be applied to a new example. 3Assume that we have recorded a two-step procedure that disassembles the ribbon cable assembly and the plug panel assembly. 4First, we choose a video frame, then we outline the parts and add annotation labels that represent the input to the procedure. 5Clicking on the domino for the Disassemble-Circuit-Board procedure results in performing the disassembly of both parts in the new example.

1Another source of distortion is the rate of change of the phase modifier. 2If distortion is applied to every bin of the DFT, it is likely to break the phase relationship of the adjacent frequency components, resulting in a beat pattern. 3By changing the phase more slowly and transitioning between phase changes, the audible distortion is greatly reduced. 4In Figure 13, a sharp versus smooth transition is illustrated. 5In Figure 13A, the edges of the phase transitions are sharp, causing noticeable distortion. 6In Figure 13B, they are smooth, reducing this. 7Note that in each case, the data points appear in the same place. 8This smooth variation has the disadvantage of causing a reduction in bandwidth, as space has to be left between each data point to allow for smooth transition.

1Ideas about human capital and how it can be developed to increase innovation and productivity are still in the early stages of being established in firms. 2By definition, human capital focuses on the individual, whereas most knowledge management work is concerned with groups, communities, and networks. 3Nevertheless, knowledge management builds on human capital ideas and has, as one of its tasks, to continue making the value of human capital clear to organizational leaders while developing tools and techniques for investing and reaping benefits from it. 4However, it is becoming more concerned with group knowledge and the processes of social capital that undergird group knowledge.[8]

1There are two reasons why the manipulation of white space in particular yields useful results. 2First, changing the number of trailing spaces has little chance of changing the meaning of a phrase or sentence. 3Second, a casual reader is unlikely to take notice of slight modifications to white space. 4The following section describes three methods of using white space to encode data. 5The methods exploit inter-sentence spacing, end-of-line spaces, and inter-word spacing in justified text.

1Everyone wears clothing. 2It conveys a sense of the wearer's identity, provides protection from the environment, and supplies a convenient way to carry all the paraphernalia of daily life. 3Of course, clothing is made from textiles, which are themselves among the first composite materials engineered by humans. 4Textiles have mechanical, aesthetic, and material advantages that make them ubiquitous in both society and industry. 5The woven structure of textiles and spun fibers makes them durable, washable, and conformal, while their composite nature affords tremendous variety in their texture, for both visual and tactile senses.

EXTENDED DEFINITION

  TERM

1Electro-holography—also called holovideo—is a new visual medium that electronically produces three-dimensional (3D) holographic images in real time. 2Holovideo is the first visual medium to produce dynamic images that exhibit all of the visual depth cues and realism found in physical scenes.[1] 3It has numerous potential applications in visualization, entertainment, and information, including education, telepresence, medical imaging, interactive design, and scientific visualization. 4Electro-holography combines holography and digital computational techniques. 5Holography[2,3] is used to create 3D images using a two-step coherent optical process. 6An interference pattern (fringe pattern or simply fringe) is recorded in a high-resolution light-sensitive medium. 7Once developed, this recorded fringe diffracts an illuminating light beam to form a 3D image.

CLASSIFICATION-DIVISION

  OBJECT

1Our first implementation of a stream-based system for video processing was Cheops,[16] which attempts to combine the efficiency of specialized hardware with the programmability of general-purpose processors. 2The Cheops processor module (Figure 5) is a board-level system containing up to eight heterogeneous specialized processing units (stream processors) connected through a full crosspoint switch to a set of eight memory units. 3Each memory unit is independently capable of sourcing or storing one stream, through the use of an integral multidimensional direct memory access (DMA) controller. 4A general-purpose processor (an Intel 80960CF) is used to execute both the resource manager and algorithm segments that do not map well onto the specialized stream processors provided. 5The crosspoint switch is semi-statically switched by the resource manager to configure a processing pipeline for a particular stream segment, while a separate hardware handshake mechanism is used to synchronize the actual stream flow.
