THE "GIVEN-NEW" PRINCIPLE
Exercise 5
Purpose: This exercise aims to give you practice in applying the 'given-new' principle
to a sample text.
Instructions:
In this exercise, you will see a paragraph in which some sentences break the 'given-new' principle.
Your job is to rewrite these sentences so that the 'given' element comes before the 'new' element.
You can then compare your answer with the model provided. Don't worry if your answer is not identical to the model!
There are many possible answers.
