THE SEMICOLON [ ; ]

There are really only 4 uses of the semicolon. If you can remember these rules, you'll have no difficulty in mastering its use!

1. Use a semicolon to join/separate closely related, complete sentences.
2. In special cases, use a semicolon to separate items in a list.
3. In special cases, use a semicolon before introductory words.
4. In certain cases, use a semicolon to separate references to other authors' work in your own text.
