Exercises: 3 / 3

Avoiding weak verbs:
"to be", "there is/are", "have"

Purpose: This exercise gives you practice in replacing weak verbs with action verbs.

Instructions: In this exercise, you will be presented with two sentences. The first sentence has a weak verb as its main verb. Your task is to find the 'action', hidden either in a noun phrase or elsewhere in the sentence, and then to convert it into the main verb of the sentence. Press the "CHECK" button to receive feedback on your choice. If you get 'stuck', you can always use the "hint" button to request a letter. However, note that one point will be deducted for each hint!

Remember that you can also click on the icon in the left-hand corner at any time during the exercise to send an automated email message with comments, questions or problems to your teacher.

Estimated time: 15 minutes.
