STRATEGY 8: Introductory 'It' (Dummy subject)

Special Adjectives

The Dummy 'it' structure can also be used with adjectives expressing degrees of certainty, such as likely, probable, or feasible.

To measure the effect of the CO2 added to the atmosphere by human activity, comparing two different heat adsorption vs height profiles based on the 250 ppm CO2 level that existed before the industrial revolution, and the other based on the current level would be necessary.

In addition to adjectives, the "dummy" it is also used with two other structures:

  • those with a special noun as the object of the sentence, and
  • those using a reporting verb.
